NAPTIP Arrests 45yr Old Woman, for Human Trafficking

In an early morning operation this Tuesday, operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) from the Benin Zonal Command arrested a 45year old woman, Rhoda Omorogie A.K.A Mama Bobo for her involvement in the trafficking of young girls from Benin to Europe.

Mrs Rhoda Omorogie, a Nurse by profession and an indigene of Oredo Local Government of Edo State was arrested by the operatives of the Agency at 5am Tuesday, at her residence located at No. 65 Osayande street, off UpperSakpanba Road, Benin City.

Mrs Omorogie had been in hiding since Friday when one of her gang members, Monday Ugbo was arrested by NAPTIP operatives and also rescued 3 victims. Mrs Omorogie is at present cooling off in NAPTIP custody.

Preliminary reports say that Omorogie has over the years been involved in the recruitment of young women from Benin to other places including Europe. It was also gathered that she was connected to the recruitment of the three victims that were rescued in Benin at the weekend. Investigations are on-going.

While reacting to the arrest of the woman, the Director-General of NAPTIP, Julie Oka-Donli said it was disheartening to see women involved in the disgusting trade in human beings. She however stressed the need for people to be more careful while dealing with traffickers.

It will be recalled that the Agency at the weekend arrested a notorious trafficker, Monday Ugbo and rescued 3 victims from his residence located at number 72 Osayande Street, Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City, Edo State.

He was arrested in the process of receiving a registration fee of N50,000 he had demanded from a prospective victim and preparing to take the 3 victims to a River for oath taking.
